THE FOREIGN TECHNICAL INTERN TRAINING PROGRAM
On November 28, 2016, the Law on the Proper Implementation of Technical Intern Training for Foreigners and the Protection of Technical Intern Trainees (Technical
Intern Training Law) was promulgated and came into effect on November 1, 2017.
The technical intern training program has been implemented based on the
"Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act" (Cabinet Order No. 319 of 1951, hereinafter referred to as the "Immigration Act") and its ministry ordinance. Along with the review of the above, the Technical Intern Training Law and related laws and regulations have been newly enacted, and many of the parts that were previously stipulated by the Immigration Control and Refuge are now stipulated by this law.
The foreign technical intern training program was establised in order for foreigners to establish employment relationships with companies and sole proprietors in
Japan, and aim to acquire, and master skills that are difficult to acquire in their
country of origin.
The maximum period of training is 5 years, and the acquisition of skills, etc. is
based on the technical intern training plan.
